DISINFECTING IMPLEMENTS & DRILL BIT’S

Many nail techs have asked about the proper way to disinfect implements and drill bits. There is a specific protocol which is to treat your bits the same as your metal implements and adopt the same procedures for sanitation and disinfection. Never use the same implement or bit on more than one client without disinfecting it prior to the service.

  • Step 1

Start by removing the dust and artificial nail products such as acrylic from the implement or bit with a wire or stiff nail brush (Young Nails Diamond File Brush is perfect for this).  Once you have done that if there is any remaining product stuck in the implement / bit - soak it in acetone for a few minutes. Then brush the it again.

  • Step 2

With nylon nail brush wash the implement / bit with warm soapy water and rinse well.

  • Step 3

Submerge the implements / bits into Disinfectant Solution, (Make Sure the Disinfection Solution Is Mixed according To the Manufacturers Instructions). The entire implement, bit, shank and all, is to be completely submerged under the level of liquid for disinfection. They should remain in Solution as stated on your Solutions Directions. Do not leave them in the disinfection solution any longer than the required time otherwise they may rust.  If they do rust replace them with a new one.

  • Step 4

Remove the implements / bits from the disinfectant, rinse and dry well with a clean towel.

  • Step 5

Store the clean implements / bits in a dust free closed container marked: “Disinfected”

NOTE: Acetone is not a recognized disinfectant and DOES NOT disinfect the implements / bits when soaked in acetone.
